Ghana Informal Apprenticeship Study Tour

A study tour is a travel experience with specific learning and knowledge exchange goals.  Study tours emphasize experiential learning and offer both group and self-directed activities that enable learners to explore new ideas, tools and proven methodologies, cultures, and people. Study tours are often reported to increase perception and sensory awareness.  Study tours are known to be habit-forming and may result in a life-long addiction to travel adventure, global exploration, and experiential learning.

Ghana Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) led the Ghana Informal Apprenticeship study tour designing and organizing the tour in liaison with the Skills programme, providing pre-travel information, resources, and support, and accompanying the Zimbabwean team on the study tour. The Zimbabwe team met successful informal economy entrepreneurs in Accra and Kumasi Ghana and learned from the artisans on the use of some local raw materials to produce usable artifacts. Most of these our artisans have low formal educational qualification but have been successful entrepreneurs for the past years.
