The consumer buyer behavior in Zimbabwe is shifting from meat and pork products to chicken due to high domestic prices as compared to lower wages especially in the public sector. In addition, the current import ban of cheap and genetically modified poultry products due to the concerns raised by health conscious consumer pressure groups has widened the supply gap and created a unique window of opportunity for local producers. Youth in Mount Darwin are benefiting from the TREE program with links to large scale poultry producers such as Irvines and Crest Breeders.
